Johnny Cash

2013. 16H. Grade QH. Gelding.

Mr. Tall, dark, & handsome!

Johnny Cash is the man to get the job done!

Working the rough terrain out on a Ranch in West Texas under the same owner for 8 years, Johnny Cash has all the exposure/experience one could possibly get. Exemplifying all facets of a working ranch gelding, Johnny Cash is the epitome of a tried-and-true SOLID using horse. We feel confident he will transition into any home/program with ease.

Johnny Cash performed all aspects out on the ranch; pasture roping, dragging calfs to the branding pit, doctoring, snubbing colts in the round pen, working the sale barns, sorting mama’s/babies, and riding across thousand-acre pastures checking fence lines and gathering cattle. With a good ethic, resume a mile long, and a ton of try, Johnny surely is the #1 pick to ride to get the job done!  Last year, Johnny aged out as working ranch horse at his West TX Ranch. He was then acquired for my program thereafter in December 2022 –during his time here we have had the pleasure of hauling this gelding out ourselves to different ranches to day-work, team penning practices, Thursday night roping practice, various trails, and different covered arenas.

Johnny is loving all the pampering we have given him.  He has adjusted to the “boujie” lifestyle quite comfortably  – soaking up all the cookies, treats, snuggles, and extra pampering that we give. He has had his teeth done by our licensed dentist, adjusted by our chiropractor, and vetted sound in December – records available upon request. He does excellent in a stall, turns out in a herd well, and comes up to the fence every night to greet us for treats.

Whomever started this gelding – my hat is off to them, as this is one fancy/broke using horse. Johnny has seen it all & is the textbook definition of hardy/gritty. He knows a long days work and has an A+ Attitude! Johnny works a gate with ease, he can spin a hole in the ground, half pass, two tracks, counter bends, side passes, and has an easy neck rein. Johnny is soft in the bridle and collects into a correct frame. He will go in a snaffle or in a full bridle.

He is not one that you “need” to ride consistently and requires no “lunge prep” – just hop on and go! He would be suitable as a weekend warrior who wants to haul out and go penning/trail riding on a Sunday. Johnny walks through water with ease, steps over tree-branches, navigating through ravines, and over bridges like it is a piece of cake.  You can carry the flag off this big boy and pony colts too!  Johnny comes equipped with a ton of cow sense – he is so fun to pen/sort on and has a ton of get up and go to get right there where you need him. As a ranch horse, these horses must be on at the top of their game 100% of the time, meaning they are; alert, sure footed, and watchful of their surroundings. Johnny possesses all these characteristics. Johnny has had a job the last 8 years of his life and he knows it well, he is a yes sir/ yes ma’am kind of guy and gives a ton of effort with the task at hand. I see him transitioning in the field of western dressage with ease as well. If you are comfortable/confident in the saddle and know how to ride – you will love this guy! This is by far the easiest and brokest horse in the barn – and is such a pleasure all the way around.

Johnny has good bone size/mass to him. Super easy keeper, good to catch in a pasture, respectful ground manners, good in a stall, and good around other horses. Stands quietly tied to the trailer/hitching post for hours with his back leg cocked. Loads easy onto any trailer (we do not tie him in the trailer as these ranch horses unload themselves as taught by the day workers).  This is a true ranch gelding packing a long resume behind him.  Whether you want to continue ranching off him or simply blaze those trails – you will have a solid mount underneath you.

Johnny is located in Terrell, TX. Shipping to any state can be arranged.
