Get ready to see one exceptionally well-rounded SAFE and fancy gelding.
“Sailor” is a gorgeous bay AQHA registered, 2015, 15.1H, stout gelding. With Topsail Whiz and Hollywood Dun It on his papers, this guy is built to last a lifetime. He has been shown successfully in the East TX Stock Horse Association by a 10-14yo youth boy and his grandmother. Finished in the ranch reining, ranch pleasure, ranch riding, ranch trail, and has even dabbled in a few cow-horse clinics too. Ridden by a youth boy all up and down the pasture, in the woods, and out on the road.
One word. Transitions. This horse is downright fancy, smooth, and so crisp, he can do them with his eyes closed. Sailor is so broke, and such a dream to ride. He has also been ridden extensively outside on the trail, Sailor does not look to spook and has a fantastic brain in and outside the pen. If you are looking for something that is super personable, gorgeous to boot, and has gorgeous movement that you can sit all day long…you need to put this guy at the top of your list. You will not find one nicer.
Sailor is balanced, comfortable, and extremely uncomplicated to ride and handle. You can easily show him at the all-breed show and win the all around. We have even ridden him under dressage tack, and he comes into the bridle beautifully. This is one that could transition to the western dressage industry overnight with how gorgeous he moves.
He was originally started as a reiner, so all the maneuvers are there; he is soft, responsive, and uses his body correctly. He is tuned in and geared just right, he isn’t overly “feely” where someone could get in trouble and end up left in the dirt, but also not dull where you have to kick on him either! He wants to be a smidge on the lazier/push style side, which is great for a novice learning the ropes. Gentle, quiet, sane but still a performance horse with buttons. Sailor side passes, has a flying lead change, spins, guides 1 handed in the bridle, goes softly in a snaffle, etc. You can drag a log, shoot a gun, and cruise the obstacle course bareback without a problem. The type of horse you can hop on bareback in a halter and ride up from the field. We have found that he does not like a rope being swung over or around his head, I do believe he has been hit with a rope at some point in his life.
Sailor will cross any obstacle out on the trail, navigate over fallen branches, and walk thru streams/water. Often ridden alone in the field by an older lady – he will go with a group or solo bravely. He rode great in traffic and doesn’t mind banners/ strollers/ drones/ wild animals/ cattle/ dogs/ tractors etc. If you need to pony another horse, he can do that too. He is super sure footed with big black strong feet. Load him up and take him anywhere you want to.
Currently fat, slick, and under lights at night. Shod up front in regular shoes, barefoot in the hind (has worn sliders in the past). A gentleman for the farrier/vet, respectful ground manners, stands for mounting etc. Easy keeper and gets along wonderfully with others in a herd. Easy to catch whether he is out on a 50 acre pasture or in a small paddock, turned out during the day, up in a stall at night. Can live anywhere you put him. The kids painted him this Summer for kids camp and he was gentle/quiet with all the littles too. A very considerate and kind hearted guy.
The grandmother/owner has shared this wonderful gelding with her grandson for the last 4 years. Sailor taught a confident beginner-novice rider the ropes and packed him at the ranch shows and out on the trail. His owner has MS, and Sailor always was a trusty mount for her as well. I could go on and on how nice this guy is. Truly, this one is worth his weight in gold. Same family for the last 4 years. Only listing due to unfortunate health and life circumstances with his owner. Sailor will fit everyone from the weekend trail rider, western dressage enthusiast, mounted shooting, ranch riding shows, or team sorting. I have had old ladies on this horse, as well as little kids as young as 6 on him!
Sells with a current vet statement on file for soundness. No health issues. The smallest cosmetic scar (about an inch) on his left hind pastern from a fence cut. UTD on dental (6/7), vaccines (9/24), shoeing, and de-worming. Sailor has been in our program for the last 4/5 months, and I cannot tell you how much we enjoy this guy. He is broke, and stays broke. Someone is going to get a nice partner. Call me with any questions you may have.
